My studies program European Studies requires 8 weeks of internship. I am doing the first 4 weeks this summer.
I am with this organization called Euregio Egrensis. It is one of approximately 100 so-called Euro-Regions in Europe which promote cross-border co-operation. Since more than one third of the population of the European Union live in border regions, the importance of cross-border collaboration increases from day to day.
The Euregio Egrensis promotes projects which improve the better understanding of the neighbor and the closer co-operation in view of economics, school or town partnerships, sports events etc. It helps the people initiating the projects with the implementation of their ideas and also distributes aid money coming from the European Union for cross-border work.
I am getting a great insight into the work of an Euro-Region during my internship; it is great to see how the co-operation between different countries works in practice (in contrast to learning the theory in school).
